A week to celebrate

My mom has always been able to find all kinds of reasons to celebrate.  People are still talking about the Halloween party she threw in 1968 (I am totally serious about this - she transformed our entire house into a haunted house.  It took 3 months to set up and 2 days to clean up).  There is currently a waiting list to get invited to the Robert Burns party she throws every year.

This is a tradition I like to follow.  I don't have quite the elaborate parties that she does but I do like to find reasons to celebrate each and every day.

Here is a list of the reasons I will be celebrating this week:

SUNDAY: We celebrated National Ice Cream day.  There is some question as to whether this day is July 15 or  actually July 17 or actually on an entirely different day.  This celebration is pretty much celebrated throughout the year.  Any way you look at it the kids had no problem celebrating it on Sunday and if there is any question about it they would be happy to celebrate again on Tuesday.

MONDAY: July 16 - National Personal Chef Day - enough said

TUESDAY: July 17 - Today is a day to celebrate our dreams.  It is both National Wrong Way Corrigan Day and the anniversary of Disneyland which opened its gates for the very first time July 17, 1955. * Check out my post on Wrong Way Corrigan

WEDNESDAY:  July 18 - International Mandela Day - on this day the UN is asking everyone to spend 67 minutes to helping others in celebration of Nelson Mandela's birthday.  READ MORE HERE.

THURSDAY: July 19 - National Flitch Day.  And if you are not into bacon or you are a vegetarian you can also celebrate the alternative reason to celebrate which is National Daiquiri Day. * Check out my post on the background of National Flitch Day

FRIDAY: July 20 - Moon Day - The Eagle has landed! On this day Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969.

SATURDAY: July 21 - There are several reasons to celebrate this day but for us it will be the day we celebrate the life of my mother-in-law Cornelia Burke Heston 1935 - 2012.

My grandfather (my mother's father) always found a reason to make every day special too.  He didn't have elaborate parties but he always had a game that we could play around the dinner table.  These games always led to massive laughter - tears running down your face kind of laughter.  And so this week, especially because of Moon Day on the 20th and my MILs memorial service, I will be remembering his favorite verse while I find  a reason to celebrate everyday:

They will rise on wings like eagles;

      they will run and not get weary;
      they will walk and not grow weak.

Isaiah 40:31

As I say on my Twitter bio Life's an Adventure! I love finding inspiration in everyday moments.  That's what I'll be doing this week.  Join me!
